A paved coastal walking path runs alongside the luxurious resorts in Wailea, passing five cove beaches that vie for the attentions of snorkelers and swimmers. Throw in some sunbathing and you've got a triathalon. Resorts include the low-key cool Four Seasons (pictured here) and the Grand Wailea, whose spacious grounds are dotted with fountains and sculptures that are worth a side trip. There are public access parking spots at either end of the path, as well as at the intervening beaches.
The paved path dwindles out going north, but from there you can beach walk and then pick up another path that goes by the boat harbor and then to the three Kamaole Beach Parks along Kihei, a familiy-vacation town. You can also drive to West Maui, to Ka'anaplai, and rough it at similar paved paths that front a series of high-end resorts. See Maui Trailblazer for the deets.
